Pokémon Introduction

Pokémon
is a series of video games developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company under the Pokémon media franchise. Created by Satoshi Tajiri with assistance from Ken Sugimori, the first games, Pocket Monsters Red and Green, released in 1996 in Japan for the Game Boy handheld console.

Pokémon is the world’s largest media franchise, with successful anime series, movies, and merchandise, with spin-off game Pokémon Go having crossed 1 billion mobile game downloads worldwide. By November 24, 2017, more than 300 million Pokémon games had been sold worldwide on handheld and home consoles, across 76 titles, including spin-offs. As of March 2021, the series has sold over 380 million units worldwide. This makes Pokémon the fourth best-selling video game franchise, behind Nintendo’s own Mario franchise, Tetris and Call of Duty.

About the ESRB

The Entertainment Software Rating Board is a self-regulatory organization that assigns age and content ratings to consumer video games in the United States and Canada.

“Our primary mission is to help parents make informed decisions about the video games and apps their children play. Our Advertising Review Council actively enforces industry-adopted advertising guidelines, and our Privacy Certified program helps ensure responsible web and mobile privacy practices.”

Pokemon video game ESRB and TV Rating Summary

“This is a role-playing game in which players assume the role of a Pokémon trainer trying to become champion. Players explore the fictional region and engage in turn-based combat with other trainers. Players select various attacks (e.g., fire, lightning/electricity) from a menu to defeat Pokémon. Melee-style attacks (e.g., rolling, scratching, bouncing) are also used, as impact sounds, light effects, and diminishing health bars indicate damage. One creature is seen with a large drop of mucous [sic] hanging from its nose.

The Pokémon tv series is rated TV-Y7 Programming rated TV-Y7 in the United States TV Parental Guidelines signifies content is suitable for children 7 or older. Many of these programs contain some fantasy violence.” – ESRB

Other notable shows that got this rating are SpongeBob SquarePants, The Loud House, and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends.

All cute little shows that exist without hidden messages of violence and other issues.

Spongebob is a good example of positive inclusivity in childhood media. Spongebob is a gay icon sporting his flamboyant nature, sensitive disposition, and closeness with his best friend Patrick.

Pokemon is Not Cutesy

As my young nephew attempted to explain the new game his parents just bought him, he described these cute cartoonish fictional animals depicting common wild animals found in reality- dogs, cats, birds, mice, etc. Shortly later, I was left in abhorrence as he very vividly described fighting against their will to win money and power. Only certain people in this world are “pokemon trainers”, most people just have normal jobs. Why couldn’t the series be about how noble journalism is?

In addition to forcing these cute animals to fight, the series actually makes you capture additional wild Pokemon in order to progress because in classic video game tropes- some types are stronger than others. As explained to me, “fire type is weak to water, water is weak to grass, grass is weak to fire.” As he continued to explain this wretched game, he described one of these pokemon named “Jynx” as basically a cartoonish opera singer, but it’s in blackface and appears to be a trans individual.

To capture these wild animals, you must first fight them to make them much “weaker” (inflict pain) by making your Pokemon fight them. Biting, clawing, poisoning, and flamethrowing are some examples of how these pokemon hurt each other. Once the wild animal is severely injured, the “Trainer” throws a “pokeball” at it to capture it, similar to a fantasy net-system. The success rate of capture is determined by how injured the other animal is. As soon as they are captured by these small unexplainable “Pokeballs” they are fully under your control. They will live and learn exactly as you tell them, and won’t leave unless you tell them to.

Stockholm syndrome is an emotional response. It happens to some abuse and hostage victims when they have positive feelings toward an abuser or captor.

There are four key components to Stockholm Syndrome:

1) The victim experienced direct threats of physical or emotional violence
2) They are isolated from their peers or restrained
3) They have an opportunity to escape, but fail to take it
4) They show sympathy for their captors

Internet scientist explains the Stockholm syndrome of Pokémon that I discovered after writing this article

The Pokémon series is wholly hidden messages of dog-fighting and Stockholm Syndrome and it is absolutely sickening.

Speaking of sickening, there are two Pokémon, alterations of each other called “Koffing” and “Weezing” which appear to be a direct mockery of the coronavirus pandemic that so many alt-right individuals deny and mock so often.

Pokemon Unite

The Nintendo company decided to make a version of a popular game genre called MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena), similar popular games are League of Legends, Smite, Defense of the Ancients 2, and Heroes of the Storm, all known to have incredibly toxic communities due to the competitive nature of fragile white men, often already lead astray- down a path of white nationalism by these gaming communities. Nintendo named their version of this MOBA genre “Pokémon Unite”. It seems a little too coincidental that one of the popular slogans from the Jan. 6th insurrection is “Unite the Right”. Pokémon is clearly brainwashing kids and turning them towards hatred.

Do you think it was coincidental? Leave a comment below.

Why white people owning dogs is racist

0

NOTE: This article was originally released on July 10, 2019 via United Wildlife Union, our sister site.

Way back in time, almost 12,500 years ago, the first canines were becoming domesticated. Through toil and hardship, people had earned the trust of our now beloved best friends.

The symbiotic relationship between dog and woman was very groundbreaking, as humans had never been this close to an animal before.

Humans would provide shelter and care for the dogs, and in turn, the dogs would hunt and fetch firewood for humans. The reason I am detailing this history for you is so everyone understands the importance of the events that took place all these years ago.

According to bio-archaeologist Gregor Larson, the domestication of dogs started in 2 places: Eastern and Western Eurasia. The Eurasian people worked non stop to gain and maintain the trust with these gorgeous creatures, but it was all stolen from them.

The greedy actions by white people stained the history books forever.

First time dog owner guide | Blue Cross

What actually happened?

Shortly after the Eurasian people worked so hard to train and bond with wolves, most of them were shipped off and given to Europeans.

These filthy white savages took the work and credit from the Eurasian people and branded these magnificent creatures as their own.

The need for white people to claim premade or pre-discovered things is not isolated to just this incident. Countless times in history, whites have been caught stealing the work and talent of POC for their own success.

Honestly speaking, we shouldn’t be surprised that white people would steal the domestication of dogs as well. Based on historical knowledge, this behavior will not slow down within the white community.

Can Dogs Remember Previous Owners? - Wag!

How does this affect us right now?

If you are white and own a dog, you are openly participating and advocating for cultural appropriation and colonialism. Reinforcing this culture is NOT acceptable and will come with its repercussions.

Dogs are and always will be the living reminder of how tainted our history is as a whole. POC deserve to exclusively own dogs as a form of restitution for their stolen ancestor’s work. Supporting the idea of white dog ownership is spitting on the grave of past POC generations.

With International Dog Day coming up, it is important we remember and advocate for the work of POC, and never let this unbalanced history be forgotten.

If you are white and own a canine, please consider donating them to a local POC family or non kill shelter so it can truly find the perfect home.

AOC defends stunning “Tax the Rich” Met Gala dress, promoting social justice and CDC covid-19 guidelines

0
Alexandria Ocasio Cortez photographed in stunning "Tax the Rich" dress while bravely promoting mask-wearing at one of New York's most prestigious events.

It’s the first Met Gala for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), and the representative absolutely did not waste her moment. She’s in a white Brother Vellies dress (with matching Brother Vellies shoes and mask), according to Vogue, with the back reading in bright red lettering, “Tax the rich.” It’s very much in line with her policies and also an impressively impactful statement, given the visibility of the event. Her bag repeated the messaging, just in case we missed it the first time. I love her.

Fans on Twitter also loved it and were impressed—particularly that she chose the high fashion, star-studded event to do it: “AOC wearing this dress at an event full of rich people … this woman has more balls than any man in Congress.” And “AOC wearing a Tax the Rich dress at the #MetGala with Kris Jenner over her shoulder wow icon.”

According to more twitter users, there’s another, more subtle message in her look: She’s also wearing a flor de maga (the national flower of Puerto Rico). AOC has advocated for Puerto Rico in the past, including civil rights and disaster relief.

After some called her a hypocrite for condemning wealth inequality at the lavish, star-studded red-carpet event, the New York congresswoman defended her decision Monday to attend the gala wearing a floor-length white gown with “Tax the Rich” written on the back in bold, red letters.

“The medium is the message,” Ocasio-Cortez captioned an Instagram photo of herself and designer Aurora James showing off their controversial collaboration. “The time is now for childcare, healthcare, and climate action for all. …

“And yes, BEFORE anybody starts wilding out — NYC elected officials are regularly invited to and attend the Met due to our responsibilities in overseeing our city’s cultural institutions that serve the public. I was one of several in attendance.”

Another twitter user wrote, “In the spirit of solidarity, I vow to wear my mask the same way that AOC wore hers at the Met Gala.”

Alexandria Ocasio Cortez is truly an inspiration to everyone around the world and she deserves admiration.

JoJo’s Alt-Right Adventure, a review on why you should condemn cartoon propaganda

0

Editor’s Note: This article, focuses on bringing attention to and ridding antiquated and stereotypical racist depictions of individuals of color among other racist caricatures, contains pictures that many may find offensive.

Throughout JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’s 30 year run, the series has encountered many instances of alt right propaganda, such most commonly found in a typical Donald Trump hate-filled speeches.

In JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure the main protagonists all commonly referred to as ¨Jojo¨. They are typically a white, heterosexual character, more commonly male, that typically aligns themselves with alt-right allies. As an example, Jolyne Cujoh befriends a literal racist named Narciso Anasui who dissected his girlfriend because she slept with a Black man.

The creators are so racist, in fact, the main antagonist of season 6, is a Black man named Enrico Pucci, and is yet another caricature of the average South Florida Haitian. Which means that so far, most POC’s in the series have been portrayed as either thieves, adulterer’s, or antagonists. Enrique is often depicted holding a mixtape, which is common among many urban children and young adults pursue as a means to lift their family out of the poverty that institutionalized racism and the failure of capitalism put them in.

Additionally, Smokey Brown (his actual name in the series) is a persyn of color shown to be a side kick to the alt right, womanizer named Joseph Joestar instead of a main character that Smokey Brown deserves to be. Even when Smokey is first introduced, he is depicted as the average white supremacist’s caricature of a “good-for-nothing ruffian thief”.

Smokey Brown in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

The last example is Rudol von Stroheim, and during his introduction, we find that he is animated to preform the infamous Nazi salute while wearing a standard Nazi uniform. He is a callous alt-right extremist who, during his mission in Mexico, commits several heinous misdeeds such as capturing locals and forcibly turning them into guinea pigs for his twisted experiments. Rudol even threatened to cut a POC’s tongue off for slightly cutting him during a shave. And if all that wasn’t bad, the main character of the season, Joseph Joestar, (a white cis male) allies himself with this alt-right monster and many more heinous demons, in order to destroy a trio of JLGBTQ+ Latinx bodybuilders simply trying to reclaim their home.

We encourage all who read or watch JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure to denounce the series, and condemn all who enjoy it.

Kamala Harris calls for womxyzn to be exempt from Fauci Ouchie mandates

0

Vice President Kamala Harris is clapping back at the newly-announced vaccine mandates, insisting womxyzn should not be held to the same standards as men.

“The right of women to make decisions about their own bodies is not negotiable. The right of women to make decisions about their own bodies is their decision, it is their body.”

Vice President Kamala Harris

Per the mandates, federal employees and employees of federal contractors are required to get the jab — regardless of whether the latter have ever set foot in a federal building or were even aware that their employer does business with the federal government.

Non-contractors will receive comparatively less tough love from Uncle Joe, as they have the option of weekly COVID testing to avoid a fine of $14,000 per employee.  Unless they have fewer than 100 employees, in which case they won’t receive any tough love at all.  Yet.

But Kamala isn’t having it.  Vaccine hesitant from start because the new non-immunity-producing vaccines were developed under the evil authoritarian regime of orangemanbad,  Kamala feels that forcing a womxyzn to surrender her bodily autonomy to the State is textbook patriarchy.

She is now calling for a womxyzn exemption, and Biden isn’t happy.

“This is not about freedom or personal choice, this is about protecting yourself and others,” he told Journalist Excellence Worldwide affiliate Cooper the White House Intern.  “Here’s the deal, I’m running out of patience, and if the maid or whoever the hell she is won’t help us beat the pandemic, I’ll use my power as president to get her out of the way.”

When Cooper relayed this comment to Kamala, she began cackling wildly.

Mandatory injections with experimental pharmaceuticals is the only way we can beat this pandemic.  But not a single health expert has yet come forth demanding womxyzndatory injections, so it would appear the science is indeed on President Harris’s side.

Half of Florida students to die from Covid-19

1

Yahoo! News reported today that “more than half of Florida’s students defy DeSantis” with a story that covers just how true that headline is.

According to The Washington Post,

More than half of Florida’s students are now enrolled in public school districts with mask mandates despite threats of sanctions from the administration of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), who decreed that only parents can decide whether their children wear masks.

On Tuesday night, two school districts — in Orange and Indian River counties — approved mandates to try to stop the spread of the delta variant of the novel coronavirus. They joined eight other districts that recently moved to require a medical exemption from a doctor to opt out.

Obviously, this is exactly what you would expect to be the case when reading the headline “More Than Half of Florida’s Students Defy DeSantis” and it surely is the case even though the students literally had no say in it.

So what does that mean for the other half?

DeSantis hates children

Based on recent projections indicating that almost 95% of teen deaths from COVID-19 have been due, at least in part, to the coronavirus – this essentially means that DeSantis has allowed half of his state’s high school students to basically be as good as dead. (If they get Covid and have severe medical issues)

As the CDC doubles down on mask guidance and schools scramble to curb the looming semi-apocalypse, we have to ask ourselves:

Sound off in the comments below:

Why do you think DeSantis hates children and America?

Here’s how God might be responsible for racism

Chamberlin Rock, UW Madison

Editor’s Note: This article, which focuses on sites and rocks named that use outdated racial terminology, contains terms that many may find offensive.

The University of Wisconsin removed a 42-ton boulder from its Madison campus Friday, July 9th, after complaints from students of color who called the rock a symbol of racism.

Chamberlin Rock, which had sat on Observatory Point since 1925, was named after Thomas Chamberlin, a geologist and former university president. A 1925 Wisconsin State Journal article used the n-word as part of a nickname for the giant boulder. Research shows that this slur was used to refer to any massive boulder of the time, but the ugly taint of racism remained on this one and it needed to go for justice’s sake. The Wisconsin Black Student Union last summer called for the rock to be removed from campus as one of multiple demands while they are seeking justice for Black students. The Blacktivists demands came in the wake of the police killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, the union said in a statement posted on Instagram Friday.

“It was very meaningful for me to be there and to see the process all the way through to the end,” senior Nalah McWhorter said in a university news release. McWhorter, who was the president of the Blacktivist organization for the past academic year, was there when the boulder was removed Friday.

“It was about a year ago that we released our demands and met with the chancellor and explained to her why those demands meant so much to us,” she said. “It was a powerful moment today to see this demand come full circle.” We at Cinch News applaud her and her organization with a “Yaaaaaas Queen(s)!” and hope that all of their remaining and future demands are met.

A crane operator slowly maneuvers Chamberlin Rock onto a flatbed trailer on campus on Friday.

A crane operator slowly maneuvers Chamberlin Rock onto a flatbed trailer on campus on Friday.

A crew worked for four hours to remove the boulder using a large crane, the university said. An archeologist was on site while workers “laid ground mats to minimize any soil disturbance or compaction during the work,” the university said.

Chamberlin Rock is a large example of a rare, pre-Cambrian era glacial erratic, which may be more than two billion years old, the university said. A glacial erratic is a large rock that was moved by a glacier and left behind when the glacier moved on. The erratic is made of a different rock type than is usually found in the area.

The chancellor’s office is using private donations to pay the $50,000 price tag for the rock’s removal, the university said. It’s being moved to university-owned land near Lake Kegonsa, southeast of Madison.

Gary Brown, director of campus planning and landscape architecture, shepherded the search for the rock’s new home. “Moving the rock to this remote site prevents further harm to our community while preserving the rock’s educational and research value for current and future scholars,” Brown said in a news release.

The problem with this “solution” is that the boulder still exists. We can compare the thought experiment: “”If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” to the current situation of “If a racist boulder exists on a university-owned remote site, can it still offend?” The answer is obviously yes for both situations so the rock existing anywhere means it is able to be offensive and knowing that it exists is triggering.

Around the country, school, county, professional sports teams, and even bird names are being reconsidered and changed, as greater attention is being paid to their origins and the racism the names may invoke. Knowing that many boulders and similar rocks like Chamberlin rock were once referred to as “[n-word]head rock” we have compiled a list of similar well-known locations in the United States that should be renamed to a more welcoming and inclusive name. If you live in or know of any other or similar racist-named locations, do let us know at discord.jlgbt.com.

We would also like to recognize and congratulate Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on proactively claiming the word back for the POC culture, similarly to how all of the bright, young, aspirational, modern POC hip-hop artists of today have taken back other slurs that have been used against them for centuries. Dwayne has always been on the forefront of teaching boys and ignorant men that it is acceptable to be a feminist with his roles like 2010’s Tooth Fairy and 2016’s Moana.

Forza: game series destructive and reprehensible influence on today’s youth

0
Picture from Microsoft Studios / Xbox

Last month, Forza Horizon 5 was recently announced at E3, a trade event for the video game industry which many developers, publishers, hardware and accessory manufacturers use to introduce and advertise upcoming games and game-related merchandise to retailers and to members of the press. I was lucky enough to experience E3 first-hand and be able to review upcoming releases and play-test some of them.

Forza Horizon 5’s setting takes place in beautiful and diverse Mexico. You can drive through Guanajuato which is a very vibrant city with unique architecture. However, the series is not free of the glaringly problematic problems that real cities such as Guanajuato are facing today. As I watched the video below, I couldn’t believe my eyes as images of trampling the environment passed by as if this was completely normal.

Xbox / Microsoft Studios

Environmental Disregard:

In a standard Forza race, there are 12 or more cars, each one pumping copious amounts of carbon emissions into the air. Carbon emissions increase the amount of greenhouse gases in the air, which can harm the ozone (our one protection from the full brunt of the sun’s radiation).Greenhouse gas emissions have a direct correlation to global warming, which is not being taken seriously enough. This point is only strengthened in the Forza Horizon subseries where you are given an open world to explore, and can drive anywhere you please. You are able to drive through the woods, and destroy small trees and bushes as you ruthlessly plow through the ecosystem with no regard for nature. Why would a series marketed towards a wide audience (as these games are rated ‘E’ for everyone) push such an anti-environmental stance?

I have a solution to this issue, and it’s very simple. In 2019, the Green New Deal was made popular by New York US Representative Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. In it, she and many other incredibly wise elected officials proposed to cut a significant amount of carbon emissions by 2030, among other things that would greatly benefit humanity. One recommendation was to remove all non-electric vehicles from production, which could be easily implemented into the series to promote environment-friendly activism. Teslas are a very good example of a vehicle brand that doesn’t harm the environment, as they do not produce carbon emissions. Secondly, remove the ability to drive off road from the Horizon series. By removing the ability to drive off road, it shows that the series is taking another pro-environment stance because being able to destroy small trees, cactuses, bushes, and other important crops is unnecessary.

Capitalist Hellscape:

You can use the money in-game to upgrade your vehicles, which help you to win races and secure more money as a result. You can purchase new vehicles to give you a strategic advantage in races, but you need significantly more money to do so. And finally, the most egregious one of all: the auction house. In the Auction House, you’re competing with other players to buy cars in a standard auction format. What is the issue here? It allows only the richest to prosper, and the poorer (much like capitalism) are left with nothing. It encourages the richest players to push the poorer ones down, and get even richer as a result. As a result, poorer players are unable to win races against the richer players, causing them to be unable to obtain faster and better vehicles. The core gameplay loop of Forza as a series boils down to: racing, earning money, buying a car, and repeat. Comparing this to the standard worker in a capitalist society, their daily life entails: working at a meaningless job in a terrible environment, getting paid minimum wage, buying life sustaining supplies, and repeat. Can you see the similarities? Essentially, the gameplay system is a 1:1 replica of our capitalist society.

Additionally, the game series’ publisher is Microsoft Studios. Many are familiar with the creator of Microsoft, Bill Gates. With a net worth of 131 billion USD Bill Gates is more than “well off” and does not even understand the prices of basic human necessities like a box of rice, laundry detergent, and frozen pizza rolls as recorded on TheEllenShow. Bill Gates does not need any more of your money. He does not use his money to help others, and he has been scrutinized for sexual misconduct and questionable behavior with employees.

Recap:

As a whole, Forza is a series that pushes environmental disregard and capitalist exploitation as its main values. From being able to level forests, to maintaining a capitalist system, Forza establishes terrible principles to learn from. It has a lot to do and a lot to fix in order to be an ethically upright series. Overall, I give the series a 3/10 because of these glaring issues. Once they’re fixed, I’m certain this rating will skyrocket. Until then, this series should be left behind.

“Elden Ring” will Drown in the Same Abyss of Racism and Misogyny that Swallowed “Dark Souls”

23
source: FromSoftware

The Summer Game Fest was an exciting event for journalists and gamers alike. We were finally given answers to our most important questions:

“Is Elden Ring even real?” Yes, it is!

“When is Elden Ring expected to release?” Next year! (2022)

But one important question remained unanswered, “Will Elden Ring be a journalist approved game?” Though we will not have a definitive answer until our journalists get their hands on the review copy, we can still make an educated guess by looking at earlier titles made by developer FromSoftware.

FromSoftware’s largest and most successful project thus far has been “Dark Souls”. Initially released all the way back in 2011, this critically acclaimed game quickly became popular by providing gamers with a grueling challenge, along with providing gamers with an innovative online multiplayer system. Just about any topic regarding Dark Souls has been talked about already, with one important exception. There is an enormous elephant in the room that Dark Souls fans have refused to address up until this very day. Namely, that the game is rooted in hatred and misogyny. And we do not care if the community is not ready to talk about it yet. We are still going to have that conversation.

And so, Globe Media Holdings journalists Neville (Xe/Xir) and Robert (they/them) took it upon themselves to journey through the forbidding land of “Lordran” and uncover its many secrets. They infiltrated ruined castles, traversed poisonous swamps, visited ancient cities of old Gods, and then proceeded to link the fire. Most importantly however, they uncovered the mysteries of the lore and discovered many hidden yet problematic elements that slipped under the radar of even the wisest of lore-enthusiasts. What is upsetting is that to find most of those elements, you do not have to look further than the opening cinematic itself.

At the very start of your adventure in “Dark Souls”, you are shown an informative video explaining the history of the world. Long ago, the world was ruled by Dragons of Color. Then, a pygmy lord discovered the White Soul within a flame. He used the power from this Soul to launch a crusade against the Dragons. A genocide ensued, and a kingdom named “Lordran” was built. One day, the kingdom was prosperous, and its people civilized, but now it is decayed, with the people being nothing more than mindless hollows. The reason for the decline of civilization is implied to be that a dark energy known as “humanity”, which was carried by a small number of POCs, began to spread among the populace. This became a threat to the white Gods and their “Age of Light”, resulting in them fleeing the kingdom, leaving the POCs to starve and rot in the wasteland.

A “humanity sprite” of color

I must give Fromsoftware credit. It is truly astounding how much racist imagery they managed to squeeze into the opening cinematic. It is also unacceptable. But what is most shocking, is how all of this has remained unnoticed by the community for what has been almost an entire decade. Thankfully, Neville and Robert took their time to produce a video that goes into even more detail about the lore of Dark Souls. If this article will not wake up the gaming community to the horrors of Dark Souls, then hopefully their video will. After all, what I managed to cover in this article is just the tip of the iceberg.

Neville and Robert’s in-depth analysis of “Dark Souls”

Note that “Robert Downey Jr.” mentioned in the video was used as a “gamertag” and has no relation to the American actor.

However, we are not done yet. You see, Dark Souls is part of a trilogy. There are two other games left that need to be analyzed. Thankfully, we will not have to go as in-depth about the other games, as all games in the trilogy take place in the same world and explore similar themes. All three games are ultimately about linking the fire and rooting out the Black humanity so that the white Gods can continue enjoying their privilege. However, there are many smaller subplots and tales told in the games that have undoubtedly left marks that are just as terrible as those left by the main story.

Let’s begin with Dark Souls II. One of the more significant stories told in this game, besides the main story, is the tale of Velstadt and Raime. The story of these twin knights is used to send a racist message about the supposed threat that Black culture poses. The game uses light to represent the Christian God, while using darkness to represent Black culture. The white man Velstadt discovers light in the depths of the Undead Crypt, which inspires him to remain loyal to his hollowed King until his own death. But the Black and stereotypical Raime does not believe in loyalty. Instead, he is scorched Black by flame, and spends the rest of his days selfishly robbing unfortunate travelers of their Souls.

The “good” knight Velstadt praying to his light.

Dark Souls III is not quite as problematic when it comes to the sub-plots. It appears that FromSoftware knew better than to pull the same trick thrice.  However, the main story remains unmistakably similar to the prior games in the trilogy. The world becomes consumed by darkness, and it is your duty to prevent the natural course of nature by artificially maintaining the “Age of Light” which, if you recall, was built on a foundation of colonialism and genocide.

All things considered; it is not looking pretty for fans of FromSoftware. Elden Ring will most likely end up being a hate game just like its predecessors. But hope is not quite lost yet! There is a chance that FromSoftware may have finally learned from their mistakes. Still though, our usual advice applies even more here than it does for other unreleased games. Do not pre-order games that are not approved yet, but instead wait for our journalists to give the games a shot. We will tell you what games you can play!

For more journalist approved games, please view Inclusive Gamers and our articles on unapproved games like Animal Crossing, Super Mario, Minecraft, and why gaming in general needs to be changed.
