Here’s why Ukraine citizens are good guys with guns, but you’re not

So, Ukraine is a country in Europe. It borders another country called Russia, and Russia is a bigger country. Russia decided to invade a smaller country called Ukraine. So, basically, that’s wrong. As a result, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy immediately vowed to arm any of the 43 million citizens who volunteered to defend the country.

While one million Ukrainians have luckily fled to neighboring states for safety so far, others have enlisted in the Territorial Defense Forces (TDF), which organizes Ukraine’s militias. From the TDF, some received training on how to use assault rifles, others transformed their homes into makeshift sites for manufacturing molotov cocktails. Volunteers dug trenches and barricades to guard against attacks.

Citizen resistance in Ukraine against Russia isn’t new. In 2014, an unprepared Ukraine had to rely on volunteer armed groups as Russian-backed separatists began breakaway campaigns in the eastern Donbas region, and Russian forces annexed the Crimean Peninsula.

Separately, All 50 of the United States “prohibit private, unauthorized militias and military units from engaging in activities reserved for the state militia, including law enforcement activities.” Some states also ban “paramilitary activity during or in furtherance of a civil disorder.’ Yet gun activists cling to the second amendment which reads:

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

It’s clearly time to abolish the second amendment because militias are illegal and you’re not allowed your freedoms granted by the constitution. Do you know what’s necessary for the security of a free State? Not fearing going to school, a concert, or anywhere else in public. Emotions don’t care about your freedoms.

So, needless to say, you and your white supremacist Trump-supporting friends are not trained to use assault rifles like the Ukrainian citizens, your country is not under attack by fascists and never will be (even though Trump was a fascist dictator, don’t question us) and forming your silly groups are illegal and nobody likes you.

Here’s what we can do to prevent gun violence in America:

  • Ban assault weapons and all assault rifle equivalents like bump stocks
  • Require background checks on gun sales in all states (also known as universal background checks)
  • Ban high capacity ammunition magazines
  • Disarm all domestic abusers and violent men
  • Ban silencers, suppressors, and flash hiders
  • Insist on licensing/taxes for all guns and ammo
  • Vote democrat!
